A Big Mess Gets Even Bigger Just when BP thought it was safe to go back in the water

It’s not surprising that, in the wake of this summer’s massive oil spill, British Petroleum would launch an even bigger clean-up effort resulting in the hiring of hundreds of people to do the dirty work. What is surprising is that in at least one area, BP wasn’t doing background checks on these oil-spill clean-up workers. Now, that lack of screening has resulted in a convicted sex offender being charged with raping a co-worker.  Jackson County, Mississippi, Sheriff Mike Byrd said, “You’re going to have every type of person coming in here looking for a job and you’re going to have the criminal element in here and we’re not going to know who we’re dealing with if we don’t do background checks on these people.” That’s not so surprising. Read the whole story at
